A dating app, a double text, and a very important question: was Mike up for boba? Our first date at Tiger Sugar came with a broken cash register, a long line, and a conversation neither of us wanted to end.
What followed was a proposal disguised as a Christmas party, the arrival of our daughter Ellie, and a life that became bigger and more wonderful than either of us could have planned.
Now, five years after that first date, we’re making it official—for us, for our families and friends, and for Ellie.
Even before our first date, there was a sign. Mike was driving home from a work trip in South Carolina, and Maggie rushed to finish a school assignment so she could keep him company on the phone. They talked until 5 a.m. When he finally pulled into his driveway, Mike’s sign-off was a wonderfully understated: “Alright, I’m home. See ya.” Thankfully, that wasn’t the end of the story.
When Mike decided to propose, he asked Maggie’s dad for his blessing. Then he told Maggie they were heading to his boss’s Christmas party. After a long drive, he stopped in a neighborhood, set up a camera, and asked her to step outside. No Christmas party. No boss. Just Mike, Maggie, and a proposal.
Becoming parents to Elaina—Ellie—was the hardest and most meaningful adventure we’d taken on. Through all the growing, learning, and ordinary days together, we became a family.
Maggie knew she’d found her person when she realized they didn’t have to be doing anything special. They could be doing absolutely nothing, and she would still choose that time with him. Our story hasn’t followed a traditional timeline, and we wouldn’t change a thing.
“There isn’t one right way to write a love story.
Ours was perfect for us.”
After visiting a number of resorts in Cancún, we fell in love with Hyatt Ziva. This is home for our whole wedding weekend: the ceremony, the reception, and all the in-between moments.
We’ll be here April 16–20. Choose the dates that work for you, and join us for the wedding on Sunday, April 18.
Fly into Cancún International Airport (CUN). Cassandra can help coordinate airport transfers when you book your room.
Pool time, beach time, and no particular agenda. There’s plenty of room for a little adventure—or absolutely nothing at all.
Kids’ activities, water play, and plenty to explore together. We chose this place with our favorite families in mind.
Dinner with friends, a show, a drink, and a little dancing. The best part is having everyone in the same place.
Everything you need to feel
right at home, away from home.
